What do I know about Google Earth and Voicethread? Google earth is a clever tool that has a map of everywhere in the world. Voice thread is a website and you can do a voice over while photos are being shown. Have I presented material about Google Earth and Voicethread before? No never. Do I understand what I have to do? Is there anything I don’t understand about this activity? I have a good idea about what to do but I might come across some speed bumps on the way e.g loosing work. What skills and knowledge will I be using? I need to know about the places we report about. I need to know how to save my work on google earth.
Identify What is the task?
What do I want to accomplish in creating a presentation? How do I want to interest others in my topic? My aim in the project is to go the extra mile. To put lots of effort and information in without people getting bored. I want to interest others by putting in facts that not many people know and put in lots of cool pictures. What do I need in order to do this? What materials do I have? What resources do I need? Should I do more research on Google Earth and Voicethread? I have got a computer with google earth and voice thread on it. I have the internet to find the information. Who will be looking at this work? How can I appeal to other students? All the year 8s will be looking at this. The teacher also will be. I can make it appeal by having good pictures and good presentation. My punctuation must also be correct for it to look right. Are there examples of Google Earth and Voicethread posters or materials that I can look at? Yes we can go on to the voice thread website and have a look. What are the obstacles? What problems may happen? I might lose my work. I might not save my work and then lose it. I might run out of time to do it.
Generate How many ideas can I think of?
What aspects of Google Earth and Voicethread interest me? What would I want to see on a poster? I like the fact that you can basically make a tour on google earth. I want to see in our presentation some creativity and something that no other group has. E.g pictures Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each idea. If we make something too creative it could be time consuming and we could end up with a non achieved. Are there any other subjects to consider? It might come in handy in another subject like social studies like if we are reaserching a place in New Zealand. What resources (books, websites, etc.) have I been provided with? Computer, websites like google, voice thread tutorials. What do other people think about this? Do others think I have a good idea? We haven’t talked to many other people but a few people think it is a good idea.
Decide Which is the best idea?
Which are the best ideas? Prioritise the 3-5 best ideas.
Doing the project in our own time.
If we back up our voice with music or something.
Working hard in class. Co operating with my partner.
Explain your reasons for choosing these. What are the arguments for and against each idea? I chose them because for cooperation if we finish it early then theres not much homework to do and we don’t get stressed. Which idea is the best one for completing the task? Which idea is best for accomplishing my goal? The best idea is cooperating. The other idea about the backing up our voices with music is good so maybe the uniquness will get us an excellence. What is my plan? What are the steps to follow? My plan is to work with Jess in a good way and not to gossip during class. How will I keep track of my progress? What are my milestones? Reaserch Putting into a brainstorm Loading onto voicethread Recording and typing text Loading onto google earth Finalising Touching up mistakes Possible list of steps: ·Research and gather material about my subject. ·Revise material and compose text for poster. ·Create graphics. ·Take pictures. Edit pictures. ·Assemble text and images into poster. ·Review poster and modify as needed.

Questions to consider
Implement Let’s do it!
Am I making progress through the plan? Yes me and jess are starting to make progress. Am I doing this correctly? You may need to review your goal for this activity. We are doing it correctly as far as we know.
Do I need to revise my plan? As you continue, you may discover facts that require changing the plan. Maybe when we get a little further in the project.
Am I satisfied with the text/graphics/pictures that I have created? Yes they are very good pictures. And the text is pretty cool.
Evaluate How well did I do?
Did I complete the task as originally set out? Did I solve the problem? Yes we did. We had a major problem of work loss but overall we finished the task. Is the text as interesting or informative as intended? Yes Are the graphics and images appealing? Yes What have I done? Put our tours on google earth and wiki What have I done really well? Is there anything that stands out as particularly good? Yes we did back up one presentation with music. We decided we didn’t have enough time to do all of them like that. Is there anything that needs improvement? Should I go back and redo anything? I personally wouldn’t. I think it’s good like it is. Am I ready to communicate my ideas or show/display my work to others? Is the poster ready to be shown to others? Yes it has been well presented and it is ready.
Communicate Let’s tell someone!
(You may have answered some of these questions early on during the planning stages.) Who can I tell? Who is my audience? Friend, teacher, class mates, family What is the best way to present this to my audience? On the computer How do I interest other students in my particular subject? Eye catching pictures and say that it is a very good presentation. Did I include the right text/graphics/images to inform and appeal to other students? Yes they were very good.
Learn from experience What have I learned?
If I had to start this activity all over again, how would I improve my performance? Would I change my work habits? Would I use a different subject or different design? Would I only make small changes? I would work harder during class so that we didn’t have as much homework. I would have made a more structured plan so that we got our work done quicker. How have I improved since that last time I worked on a similar task? I have learnt more computer skills and learnt how to use google earth and voicethread which were two programs I wasn’t so familiar with. Have I learned anything about my subject or about appealing to others or about presenting information? I have learnt how to use voicethread, wikispace and google earth. Can I use that elsewhere? Yes maybe in future I will need those skills. How has my thinking changed as a result of this work? Yes especially my work habbits. I foundn it easier when it was quiet and we counle doncentrate more on getting the work done and getting it done better. What skills have I learned and developed? How to use Google Earth, Voicethread and wiki. Also how to use my laptop better. Can these skills be applied to other subjects/activities? Maybe in future for other subjects. What problems did I have to solve? Were there obstacles in developing ideas, researching material, or presenting the material? How were they overcome? When I was using Google Earth my work wasn’t saving. I overcome it by saving the places into a folder and then saving it afterwards. I also thought ahead and just incase it deleted for any reason, I backed my work on a stick. That helped. How did I use the strengths of others to help me? Jess and me asked our other class mates and if they had no idea, we would ask Mrs Beadle.

Yes How will I know that I have completed the task? When I can say yes to all the requirements on the sheet which tells you what to do and when I know that I have worked to the best of my ability.
Generate How many ideas can I think of?
Is there another way to do this? I don’t think so. What resources (books, websites, etc.) have I been provided with? Google, Google Earth, Voice thread, Wiki, The internet. What do other people think about this? My whole class are doing the same project with different places so we all agree it’s a good idea.
Decide Which is the best idea?
Which are the most important ideas? Prioritise the 3-5 best ideas. The places we are doing. The pictures we use. The information we put in the presentation. Explain your reasons for choosing these. What the arguments for and against each idea? Which idea is the best one for completing the task? Without these there would be no project at all. What is my plan? To finish the project up to standard and beyond. How will I keep track of my progress? What are my milestones? We could make a list to keep track of where we are at.
Implement Let’s do it!
Am I making progress through the plan? Yes but quite slowly. Am I doing this correctly? Yes very carefully.
Do I need to revise my plan? As you continue, you may discover facts that require changing the plan. Yes we need to do a lot of homework because Jess and I lost our work so we need to do homework.
Evaluate How well did I do?
Did I complete the task as set originally set out? Did I solve the problem? Yes we recovered the problem by backing up our work just incase we lost it. What have I done? My assignment and my presentation. What have I done really well? As well as I could have. Could I have done it better? What areas need improvement? I don’t think I could have. All the areas were covered. Am I ready to communicate my ideas or show/display my work to others? Yes it has been well presented and it is ready for showing to others.
Communicate Let’s tell someone!
Who can I tell? Who is my audience? Parents, teachers, friends etc. What is the best way to present this to my audience? On the computer. What should I say to ensure my audience understands? I can show them my criteria sheet and show them my documentation. How do I interest my audience in my ideas? Make it interesting and mysterious. Do I have the right information to get my message across to my audience? Yes
Learn from experience What have I learned?
How would I do this again? What would I change to improve my performance? I would work more in class so there wouldn’t be as much homework. How have I improved since that last time I worked on a similar task? My presentation is better and surprisingly my punctuation has gotten better. Probably from making sure all the places were spelt correctly and full stops in the right place. What knowledge have I learned? How to use Wiki, Voice thread, Google Earth and other websites. Can this knowledge be used elsewhere? Maybe in other subjects. How has my thinking changed as a result of this work? Yes the most important thing I learnt was DO NOT MUCK AROUND OR YOU FIND YOUR SELF WITH A PILE OF HOMEWORK. What skills have I learned and developed? To use my laptop in a different way. Can these skills be applied to other subjects/activities? Maybe in future. DLL or maybe in future if we have a job which involves these skills. What problems did I have to solve? Google Earth kept on not saving so I actually backed up my work and did the rest in one period then sent it off to the teacher. That helped. How did I use the strengths of others to help me? When I got stuck I asked someone else who knew what to do to show me what to do.
